Sandie Slater - the present owner of Barkimber Kennels has 26 years experience in the world of animals.

Having worked for seven years in veterinary practice in Essex , she came to Wiltshire in 1987, and carried on in the veterinary profession for 13 years as the manager of a busy branch veterinary surgery in Cricklade.

Sandies own pets include a 15 year old Chihuahua called Rupert his sight and hearing are failing a little, but he still rules the house with the same severity as he did on his arrival as a 9 week old pup; there is also Ralph an 8 year old Pomeranian adopted seven years ago as an unwanted stray. The cat members of the family are Levi and Harley, eleven year old Siamese twins. Harley is completely blind but can lead a totally normal life, his twin Levi believes himself to be more canine than feline and spends much time putting the dogs in what he believes to be their rightful place. Sticky-Beak is a Collared Dove who has been in residence for 12 years; Sandie reared him straight from the egg and he is now imprinted on her; although believing that Sandie is his mum – he also accepts that the dogs and cats are his brothers.

Barkimber has been a successful boarding establishment for more than 30 years; the previous owners had built up an enviable reputation in the 15 years they had run the kennels. Taking over Barkimber in June 2000 following retirement of the previous owners - Sandie has strived to ensure that Barkimber is a place where owners return with their pets time and time again. High standards are set and adhered to with regard to the care your pet will receive, but the emphasis is always on happiness and fun.

Assisted by a caring team of dedicated kennel girls, who are fully trained in all aspects of looking after the animals entrusted to them; Barkimber staff also train students on work placements from Lackham College of Animal Husbandry.
